Are You Satisfied? 5/15/20

“Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!” (Psalm 65:4)

This verse reminds us that it is God who initiates our salvation. “Blessed is the one you choose.” We are chosen, and God brings us near to Him. Our sin keeps us from the possibility of being close to God, but the death and resurrection of Christ cleanses us and makes us righteous in Him. Because of this, we can be brought near to God. We can come into His presence. We can know His love. We can know His holiness.

And why are we brought near? We are brought near that we might dwell in His courts, that we might abide in His presence, that we might love and worship Him. God didn’t save us just to make us feel good. He saved us for Himself. He saved us that we might experience fullness of life in Him. He saved us that we might serve Him and walk in the good works for which we were created.

Chosen. Brought near. Dwelling in His courts. Now we can be satisfied with the goodness of His house. Now we can be satisfied with the holiness of His temple. We have been created for Him. In Him we find our purpose, our meaning, our direction in this life and in the life to come. Knowing this, understanding this, we should be satisfied.

Those who wander through life without meaning and purpose are not satisfied. They are always seeking something new, something better. They settle for what looks good, only to be disappointed when they realize that what they have found is nothing but a distraction. They come to the end of life and acknowledge that their lives are and always have been empty.

Christ stands with open arms and invites us to come to Him. “Come to Me and receive newness of life. Come to Me and be set free from sin. Come to Me and be filled. Leave the darkness and come into My light.”

Lord, we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house and the holiness of Your temple. Amen.
