Blessed Assurance 4/21/20

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)

Where is my assurance? Where is my confidence? It certainly isn’t in me. I know all too well my failings and my weakness. When I look ahead to the “day of Jesus Christ,” how do I know I will be ready? How do I know I will persevere? My assurance of perseverance is the same as my assurance of salvation. It rests solely on the grace of God through Jesus Christ.

As I walk through this present life, I am not hanging on to Christ. I am not holding His hand. Christ is holding my hand. If I’m the one hanging on, there is no guarantee that I will be able to keep hold. But as Christ is the one Who is hanging on to me, I have no fears, no doubts.

Jesus said, “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” (John 10:28-29) The saved are safe in God’s hand; there is none great enough to pluck us out. In fact, there is no one who even dares to try.

The good work which has begun in us will be completed, not because of us, but because God is the one performing the work, and God can never fail. God will complete the work, and it will be brought to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Blessed assurance! Amen.

Pastor Mike
