It Is Good 5/7/20

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night.” (Psalm 92:1-2)

Would you do good on this day? It’s easy to start the day doing good. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High.” We begin the day with a thankful heart, and we live the day with a thankful heart. We give thanks to our Creator, our Savior, our Lord. We give thanks for what He has done for us; we give thanks for who He is. We praise His name as we see His handiwork in the world He has created. Even in this fallen world, this world which prepares us for His eternal kingdom, we see His glory.

Paul writes in Romans about those who are godless and unrighteous. He says they do not glorify God as God and neither are they thankful. But we, the redeemed of the Lord are to glorify God each day. We praise His name and live a life of thanksgiving to our God.

We start the day by declaring the steadfast love of God. When we arise, we know the touch of His hand, we know the depths of His love. He has shown us His love in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We experience His love as the sheep of His pasture, as the people He created and purchased.

We end the day by meditating on His faithfulness. While we fail, while we are so often unfaithful, God is always faithful. His was faithful through the day; He will be faithful through the night; He will be faithful tomorrow.

Because of God’s steadfast love and faithfulness, “Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” (Psalm 46:2-3)

God is great and greatly to be praised. We are safe in the hollow of His hand. No one is able to pluck us out of the Father’s hand. Father, we will declare Your steadfast love in the morning, and Your faithfulness by night. Amen.
