Today we honor those who sacrificed their lives for our country, for our way of life, for our freedom. Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” We remember their sacrifice, and hold them dear in our hearts.
We eagerly look forward to that day prophesied by Isaiah. “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isa 2:4) This will not result from man’s efforts but will be a work of the Lord.
For there is one great, final battle coming. “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war…. The name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.” (Rev 19:11-16)
“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev 22:20)
