“But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (II Corinthians 3:18)
When God saves us, the veil of sin that stood between us, that separated us, is lifted, and we begin to see the glory of the Lord. We begin to see Him through His Word as the Holy Spirit enlightens our minds. We begin to see Him as we think on Him, as we meditate on Him, and as we love Him more and more. Of course, our thoughts, meditations, and love all need to be in accordance with His Word. As we go through this process, called sanctification, we are transformed into His image, not completely, not all at once, but daily we are being transformed.
There is no secret to becoming more Christ-like, at least not in the sense of something hidden and mysterious. No, it is very simple, at least to the saved. We are to behold the glory of the Lord. And how do we do that? By reading His Word, by prayer, by meditating on Him, by spending time with Him. We always find the time and the resources we need to do the things we value. If we value Christ over all else, we will have no trouble making the time for Him.
As we are transformed into His image, the Holy Spirit directs our lives, cleanses our minds, and brings our lives more and more into compliance with the righteousness we’ve received from the crucified and risen Savior. He fills us, and we hunger for more. He leads us, and we follow in obedience. He loves us, and we live without fear. Let the Lord of life be the Lord of your life.
Lord, let us behold your glory each day. May the Holy Spirit transform us into Your image, for You died that we might live, that we might glorify You in our lives. Having put our hand to the plow, we will not look back. We look forward down the path that You have laid before us and to that moment when we will truly behold You, face to face. Amen.
